Position hours: Full time position.

Job duties:

The Certified Building Official administers and enforces various Town and state codes regulating the construction, use and occupancy of buildings and structures. Performs inspections of residential, commercial, industrial and other buildings during and after construction to ensure code compliance. Performs related administrative, supervisory and technical work as required, including plans examination. The work is performed under the supervision and direction of the Community Development Director, but leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative.

Qualifications:

Requires an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in either architecture, structural engineering, building, technology with construction management, or building science and three years of experience as a building inspector or in general construction and related fields; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.  Must possess or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid SC driver’s license. Must be certified through the South Carolina Building Codes Council as a Building Official within 24 months of hire.  Must be able to maintain required number of CEU’s as directed by the State of South Carolina to remain certified as a Building Official.

  • ICC Certified Building Official
  • ICC Plan Review certifications in multiple trades
  • ICC Inspector certifications in multiple trades

Police Officer

Position hours: Full time position.

Under regular supervision, performs general uniform patrol, investigative, or other police duties as assigned and enforces all state laws and town ordinances. Required to work various shifts including weekends and holidays. Certified applicants must be certified by the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy and are required to maintain training and certification requirements. Uncertified applicants with related experience may be considered.

Qualifications:

  • Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education or specialized advanced training in criminal justice
  • Must have completed the SC Criminal Justice Academy Training for a certified police officer or for an uncertified officer must complete the SC Criminal Justice Academy Training by the end of the assigned probationary period.
  • Valid S.C. driver’s license in good standing, must pass all required tests and must be able to operate standard issue vehicles.
  • Personal computer experience preferred.
  • Completed degree (s) beneficial to position may be partially considered as work experience
  • Must be in good physical condition.
  • Must be able to maintain required level of proficiency in the use of firearms.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check and polygraph examination.

Police Officer Uncertifed Grade: N-12

Salary Range: $ 29,966 – 41,953

Police Officer Certifed Grade: N-13

Salary Range:  $ 31,546  -  $ 44,164

Assistant Administrator/Safety Director 

Job duties:                

  • Plans, organizes and directs personnel engaged in water and wastewater installation, construction, maintenance and repair, water distribution, wells, wastewater collection and treatment.
  • Provides technical guidance to officials and staff, short-term and long-term planning, regulatory compliance, preparation and administration of budget, hiring and management.
  • Responsible for maintaining and updating the safety training/education program for employees and enforce worker compliance with safety rules and regulations and put measures in place to protect the safety of employees and the public.
  • All employees are expected to be cross-trained and full cooperation is expected in performing other duties not outlined.

Qualifications:

  • College degree preferred or any combination of education, training and experience which provides skills, knowledge and abilities.
  • A minimum of three years experience in water/wastewater operations.

Water and Wastewater Distribution Operator

Job duties:

  • Be able to perform the operation and maintenance for a water and sewer system and operate various equipment, i.e., backhoes, tractors, sewer rodders.
  • Make repairs to water and sewer lines and appurtenances, install water and sewer services, read water meters, replace and repair meters, operate and maintain fire hydrants, including flushing hydrant semi-annually and assisting in fire flow testing
  • Maintain and operate sewer pump stations
  • Bushhog right-of-ways, cut grass and perform weed eating.
  • Must be willing to be on-call for after hours or weekend work as scheduled. Must be able to work alone or in groups. 
  • All employees are expected to be cross-trained and full cooperation is expected in performing other duties not outlined..

Qualifications:

  • Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Must have or obtain a Class D Water Distribution License. Must have or obtain certification in “Trenching and Excavation”, “Confined Space Entry”,  “Backflow Prevention” and “Asbestos”.
  • Skill and knowledge in the use of tools, materials and equipment commonly used in the performance of Job Function.
  • A minimum of two year’s experience in water/wastewater operations is preferred.

Under regular supervision, performs various duties to maintain the grounds appearance for the Public Service Department.  Work involves performing skilled daily duties such as mowing, weeding, planting, and operation of various types of small to large equipment.  This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent with one to two years of general grounds and facility maintenance experience; or any combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.  Must have a valid SC driver’s license. Grade N-9,  $13.177 hr.
